Daily Bible Reading: Psalms 41-49
SCRIPTURE “My heart is inditing a good matter: I speak of the things which I have made touching the king: my tongue is the pen of a ready writer.” Psalm 45:1 KJV
Here the psalmist is saying that he can’t any longer hold back. He’s got to write something! The word, “indite” means to compose: as a song or as in a “composition paper”. Remember those? One thing that brought new levels of boredom in high school for me were, Term Papers. We had to write a “composition paper” on the subject the teacher gave us. Unfortunately it was always on something that never interested me. But here the psalmist is so excited to write his “composition paper”, his song of love. Why? Because [prophetically speaking] it was all about the King of Kings, Jesus Christ! It was about something that excited him. Somewhere along the line the Lord opened the windows of Heaven and allowed him to touch the Lord! Because he touched the Lord his pen now was the pen of a ready writer!
This Psalm really makes me want to go deeper in the Lord. The psalmist’s “composition”, song, psalm, blog or sermon didn’t come first; what came first was a desire to touch the King, and the Lord gave the desire of His heart. The song, the writing, the “sermon” came out of his own intimacy with his King. This verse encourages me that if I can but touch the King there will definitely be something to talk about! But I must always keep that desire in the forefront of my heart – to touch the King.
“Lord, You are the King of my life. Help me to just have one desire – to touch You. Never mind the sermons, the blogs, the songs – they’ll all come if I can but touch You. Please show me Your glory. Please give me an open door into Your Presence that I might know you. Not just so that I’ll have something to share. But let me know You more, in Jesus’ Name, Amen.”
