The Second Door

As I was reading the scriptures this morning, the Lord gave me a poem.

As you read the first part of Ezekiel 44, the Lord brings Ezekiel towards the Temple, and shows him the east gate, and says, “This gate shall be shut… and no man shall enter it…” (v. 2). I thought how that so often we perceive our reality this way in God. Discouragement sets in, and we feel like we somehow aren’t spiritual, “Yeah, I figured I wasn’t going to experience the presence of God in my prayer time. That’s why I don’t really like to pray – the heavens are brass, and the door is always shut.” But we’ve all heard the saying, “God doesn’t close one door without opening another.” If we persevere in prayer, the Lord will show us another door.

“Then brought he me the way of the north gate before the house: and I looked, and, behold, the glory of the Lord filled the house of the Lord: and I fell upon my face.” [Ezekiel 44:4]

The Second Door

It’s time to pray
I hear the Lord to me say
And yet I feel so dumb
Will it be worth it if I come?

I know this gate is my fate
This door will be closed like before.
See? He says it’s shut
It’s just my luck
My doubts have locked the door

But wait.
Could it be?
I see a light
In the second gate?
O this second door is worth waiting for!
O the treasure that’s in store – for me!

Then the glory flowed
My face did glow
My Friend was found
My heart is sound
I’m as happy as can be

So don’t hesitate
From past mistakes
Or feel that prayer’s a chore

The sign you need
Is the invitation He brings
Faith unlocks the door.

Don’t Settle for Less

Some merely settle for a “Christian-radio coffee-in-hand-drive-to-work” kind of walk with the Lord.

“You shall not at all do as we are doing here today— every man doing whatever is right in his own eyes— for as yet you have not come to the rest and the inheritance which the Lord your God is giving you. ” (Deu. 12:8–9, NKJV)

One of the signs of a halted spiritual growth is when a person just begins to do, “whatever is right in his own eyes.” They’ve somehow lost sight of the fact that there’s more that the Lord has for them. The Apostle Peter calls it being “shortsighted” (2 Pet. 2:9). This is why the Holy Spirit is very strong in saying, “For as yet you have not come to the rest and the inheritance which the Lord your God is giving you.” It’s like going to a movie… but then walking out after the previews, saying to yourself, “What a lame movie, l’m getting out of here.” That would be so foolish, and yet it’s what so many believers are doing today—quitting just shy of their breakthrough. Some merely settle for a “Christian-radio coffee-in-hand-drive-to-work” kind of walk with the Lord. There’s no tears of intercession, no baptism of the Spirit, no joy unspeakable, no power over the flesh, no passion for the lost, no time soak in the scriptures, no time to melt in God’s presence. It’s all on big yawn.

Now, thank God He doesn’t give up on us as easily as we give up on Him. His mercy does endures forever, but the Holy Spirit is still trying to get our attention as we stand in line at Starbucks…

“My Son, you haven’t arrived yet. What are you doing here? You need more than caffeine poured down your throat, you need Me burning in your heart.”

Maybe you’ve been running on empty lately because of disillusionment, and perhaps it’s even caused you to run the race according to your own rules. But deep in your heart you know you aren’t satisfied. It’s time to yield to the conviction of the Holy Spirit, and to stop running in circles, and begin to once again submit to the mighty hand of God upon your life, your calling, and your future destiny. Don’t allow yourself to settle for less than God’s best. It’s time.

God is Moving in the Youth!

GodismovingOn Wed. Nite at United Youth we had a powerful move of God. My message was called, “The Right Kind of Heartburn”, as I preached on, “The Fire of God”. And I shared how John the Baptist said,

“I baptize you with water, but He… will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire.” [Luke 3:16].

After the Word I opened the Altar to those who wanted that Fire, and… [as the old-timers would say…] “The Fire fell!” Every person I prayed for ⎯ I could literally feel God’s Love for. Tears were streaming down my eyes, and you could see the effects of the Holy Spirit on them as well. There was no manipulation. The Holy Spirit was moving. Many were crying, bowing-down, collapsing under the power of God, and 11 received the gift of the Holy Spirit and spoke in Tongues for the very first time. There was no striving. It was as if God stepped into the room.

Even parents of the youth came in and wanted to receive prayer. One 19 yr old in particular just sat in his chair. I walked up to him and said, “I want to pray for you.” As I did I could smell the Marijuana all over him. I just hugged him ⎯ like a father of a wayward son, and just broke-down crying. After about 5 seconds this young man’s tears were all over me. His Mother then came in. He did something that I’ve never seen before. He grabbed his Mom’s hand and bowed his head in reverend submission to her. It was beautiful as they were re-united. That Mom came up to me today at Church and said, “Thank you, Pastor Robb. My son hasn’t smoked weed ever since that nite”. Tears were streaming down her face.

I’m telling you – seeing young people change so suddenly because of the reality of the Holy Spirit’s Love and Fire will do something to you!

How To Hear The Voice of God

Here’s 3 practical steps in hearing the Voice of God that have helped me greatly, and may pave the way for you to begin to hear God’s voice.

With so many things going on today someone might say, “Is it even possible to hear the voice of God?” God is speaking today. The real question is, “Are you listening?” Today we are literally bombarded with radio, TV, computers, video games, screaming kids, and traffic ⎯⎯ just to name a few. Sometimes we feel like if we could just get away we would be able to get our head cleared and really become more spiritual. And you know what? You’re right. But most of us can’t take a 3 month vacation and be a monk on a mountain somewhere. But there is a way for us live-out our faith on a daily basis so that our relationship with God will benefit us.

1. Carve-Out Time in Your Schedule to Wait on God.
Think of what you find yourself saying so often, “I just don’t have time.” That’s why you need to set a priority on making time to spend with God. Go to bed an hour earlier, and set your alarm an hour earlier. Start there.

2. Go to a Quiet Place.
This is so important. As long as kids are screaming and phones are ringing you wont be able to hear the voice of God. Think of it, you’re wanting to hear the voice of the Eternal God! Don’t take it lightly. Position yourself.
Think of the times God spoke in the Bible. Moses was all by himself on a mountain. So, plan your time and then get to a place where you won’t be distracted.

3. Quite Your Heart to Listen
Make sure there is no unconfessed sin in your life. Ask God to speak to you. Whatever you hear, make sure that it doesn’t contradict God’s Word, for God will never contradict Himself. Write down what you are sensing Him saying to you. If you’re not sure about what you’re heard, find a mature believer or Pastor to check it. Because the Bible says that there are many voices that speak. This will give you confidence, and will add to your faith, that you are in fact hearing the voice of God.

Applying these 3 easy steps will get you on the road to hearing the voice of God. If you have any questions or comments, feel free to let me know.

I Killed the Dove

I Killed the Dove
Going forward is a necessity. Old paths though have something, that if we’re not careful our forward inertia will be a sliding backwards into mindless regression. Even the Bible talks about this. You might be thinking, “Yeah, didn’t Jesus say, “Remember Lot’s wife.”?” Actually yes, He did. But why? Because there is an innate danger in lusting for that which is evil – that which we used to live-in and feast on. But Jeremiah flips the script a bit when he said,

“Thus saith the Lord, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said we will not walk therein.” [Jer. 6:16 KJV].

Some people are so busy about making New Year’s Resolutions that they have forgotten the old paths of the ancients. They’re busy thinking about their new figure, new careers, the New Age, New Wave, and… of course, new shoes, (gotta have ’em)

One ancient, so-to-speak, in particular that I’m thinking about is someone from the 80’s Southern California Punk Rock scene. Lyrical genius, Jonithin Christ of Code of Honor said in his song, “I Killed the Dove”…

There is a hunger on this planet, reflections of past
The dreams you thought were real last night were nights of the last
The hunger’s inside of you, distorting your view
Nothin’ here but wasteland all wrapped up inside of you
I did it for Money
I did it for Love
I did it for Myself
I killed the Dove
Why can’t we see where our lives are going and change?

If you listen to the song, [found on Savage Jaw Records], singing that last line, Jonithin belts out an eery cry… Why can’t we see where our lives are going and change? During this first part of the year I have been asking myself this same exact question. Because if we really could see where our lives are going most of us would change. There would be a reason to stop doing what we’re doing, and start doing what we should be doing. But the haunting questions still lingers, What if we don’t see where our lives are going and change? We “Kill the Dove”.

The the gospels are clear, that the Dove represents the Holy Spirit. I hope I never kill the Dove. I do know that I’m sure I have clipped His wings on numerous occasions. The Dove is so innocent. The Dove represents perfect peace. And we forfeit that peace when we fail to see ahead, and when we fail to go back to the old paths of doing what is right. Most of the time we go back to old sins. The wheel of old habits ends up moving forward to crush us.

To conclude, don’t kill the dove. Don’t let that be written on your epitaph. The Dove comes to cleanse you and set you free through the power of the One He landed-on so many years ago beside the Jordan River. Open your eyes, and see the path your on. Do it for yourself. Do it for the Dove.

Successful Daniel Fast

21 days of “non-pleasant food”, and seeking God were what the Doctor ordered for me, my leaders, and the UNITED YOUTH in Chicago. So proud of them all.

UNITED YOUTH CHICAGO

Devil’s Food!

I don’t know much about Angle’s Food, or Devil’s Food, but as a Christian I sure do know what it’s like for the Devil to stop on by and want to take a bite out you for Lunch!

Well, it’s Day 14 of our Daniel Fast.
I don’t know about you, but it hasn’t been a “piece of cake” for me. There’s been alot of garbage that’s been boiling up to the surface of my spirit. And it didn’t stop there! Unfortunately it has erupted on others also. “Congratulations Robb, welcome to the human race!”

At times on this Fast I have forgotten what we are actually doing. It’s not just changing what we ate, but it’s about entering, [and engaging in], a massive Spiritual War! Demonic spirits that used to fluff your pillow for you as you allowed your Bible to collect dust on your night stand are now screaming at you, “STOP PRAYING AND FASTING!!”

With only 7 days left remember to give yourself grace. When your flesh tries to rise up, remind yourself that invisable forces are coming at you, and that it’s not just “you” having a “bad day”. The half-brother of our Lord has a few things that have been helping me:

1. SUBMIT TO GOD… [“Jesus, in all this, I confess that You are Lord. I’m not going to let my flesh dominate. You are with me even when I don’t feel it. You are ruling and reining right now in my life.”]

2. RESIST THE DEVIL… [Sometimes this isn’t so much as addressing the Enemy directly as it is “resisting” him. Thru your spirit, and your emotions, you resist the temptation to eat, to react in the flesh.]

3. AND HE WILL FLEE… [You aren’t “prgrammed” to fail! Your New Man on the inside of you is actually “programmed” to WIN!! If you haven’t seen the enemy flee in a while, NOW IS THE TIME!! Submit, Resist, and Demons Flee!!!]

Be Strong! Finish Strong! Fasting Together With You!!
