The Right Telescope

In Maui, we now have the world’s largest digital camera, (located on top of Mt. Haleakala, of course). It’s ability to capture the span of 40 moons across the canvas of outer space – is amazing indeed. But the main function of this camera is not mere “star gazing”, no, it’s used to watching out for meteors that could potentially “rock our world”. (Remember the movie, “Armageddon”?)

”Now before the Feast of the Passover, when Jesus knew that His hour had come that He should depart from this world to the Father, having loved His own who were in the world, He loved them to the end.” [John 13:1]

On the night Jesus was to be betrayed, He took His disciples to a place called: “loving them to the end.” And when you see a person loving his dearest friends to the very end his life, what does that look like? The phrase, “…to the end has it’s origin in the greek: telos, from which we get the word, Telescope. Jesus was absolutely focused and zeroed-in on demonstrating His love for His disciples.

When you look up to the God of the universe, what do you see? What are you expecting? Many people actually think of God as One who is dropping “meteors of trials” down on them, as if He is the “Cosmic Kill-Joy” of the universe. Others are always expecting the worse thing will happen, and that “…Oh, God probably doesn’t love me, because of all the bad things I’ve done….” But, here’s the thing, when you look through telescope of God’s Word [James 1:22-25], you’ll see that what is on the horizon for your life are… the multitude of mercies and love drops from Heaven, because of the great love of a great God. And just like Jesus loved those disciples of His to very end, in the same way He will love you and I – right up to the very end. Aren’t you glad for a Saviour like this?!

Pray This Prayer
“Lord, this morning I want to thank You for Your great Love for me. I know at times I deserve a meteor of judgement, but I ask for mercy and for grace to be extended from the scepter of Your Throne. I receive Your unconditional, agape love over my life and right now, in Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

CHAOS IS TAKING OVER!!

At times it can seem like chaos is reigning.

– Parents are getting out of control
– Local drug dealers are busy polluting Society
– Your best friend just talked behind your back
– Brothers & sisters are driving you crazy
– “There’s no food in the fridge!”
– …and “Why doesn’t anybody CARE!!!???”

Always remember that when it’s super crazy all around you – it doesn’t have to GET IN you. The storm might be raging all around you, but it doesn’t need to get all up ON you! Jesus is your Strong Tower – Run to Him and you’ll be safe. It’s the smartest move you’ll ever make.

“God, I Love My Goads!”

Some people are great team players, while others are great at bucking against any, and everything. “What in the world are goads?” Goads are used to keep oxen from backing up. They have little spikes on them, and once an ox bumps into them he usually never does it again, because they give a pretty good wake-up call. Frank Damazio, in his book, “Successful Leadership” said, in regards to the “foot-dragger” types, “If you kick, be sure you kick towards the goal.” When I read it I though to myself… “…and don’t kick against the goads!” Saul of Taursus, who of course became the great Apostle Paul, was confronted by the Risen Christ on the Road to Damascus. As he heard a voice saying, “Saul, Saul… it’s hard for thee to kick against the pricks, (goads)”[Acts 9:5] If you don’t like what you’re doing, just do everybody a great big favor, and get out! But if you realize that there is some sort of reason why you are at that job, church, relationship, then why not accept the goads? In fact, you ought to be thankful for the goads in your lives, especially God’s goads!

“Are you serious?” Of course! Think of it this way. As long as we buck against the Word and think it’s too hard, or somehow think “God isn’t fair”, then you’re going to find yourself fighting against the very blessing that God is trying to bring into your life. That situation that you’re in – they’re your “goads”. God has placed them in your life so that you can grow, and move forward. As long as you and I kick against the goads we’re going to find ourselves getting angry and resentful. This is going backwards! God is calling you to go forward, and only forward! So, why not say, “God, I love my goads!!” It will make a difference in your life today.

Command Your Conduct!

Bob Dylan sang, “The times, they are ‘a changing” . Road rage, profanity on TV, people shouting at their co-workers, marriages imploding only after 6 months… we sure are living in different day. Whatever happened to knowing how to control your emotions?

“Whoever offers praise glorifies Me; And to him who orders his conduct aright I will show the salvation of God.” [Psalm 50:23 NKJV]

At times our conduct can be like an unchained dog – no one knows how we’re going to react (or attack), and sometimes we even bite! Proverbs 16:32 says, “He who is slow to anger is better than the mighty, and he who rules his spirit than he who takes a city”. [NKJV]. Our conduct is a reflection of our spirit man. For many people, their lives are spinning out of control – there’s no order. In fact it’s down right chaotic. We need to learn to “rule” our spirit, and “order” our conduct. No, you’re NOT going to lash-out in this situation!” Order that conduct of yours! Don’t let it off the leash.

Conduct, emotions, words, feelings, mannerisms, responses, e-mails, and conversations MUST be held at bay, and ought not to be left to a “whatever” mentality. We simply can’t afford to let our flesh run wild.

How can I control it? How can I command my conduct? “Praise glorifies Me.” Notice it didn’t say, “Silent grumpiness glorifies Me.” Isaiah 61:3 says that God will give you a “spirit of praise” in exchange for your “spirit of heaviness”. That’s not a bad deal, if you ask me. Do I really want to “see the salvation of God” – in me, on the job, in the car, in my family? Then I MUST command my conduct. Let’s get it in order and start to set some boundaries. Let’s get rid of the “spirit of heaviness”, and start praising God on a daily basis. Your days will take on a whole new excitement if you do.

Man Accuses Doctor of Stapling Buttocks Shut

[And you thought you had problems…] Maryland – Arguments began Monday in a federal lawsuit alleging that a Maryland doctor stapled a man’s rectum shut during an operation, rendering him unable to move his bowels for 17 days, the Baltimore Examiner reported.
Ronald Watkins, 64, of West Virginia, has accused Dr. Manuel Casiano, a doctor in Frederick County, Maryland for botching a September 2004 surgery that left him with permanent bowel problems, according to the report.

N.I.N.O.

Last nite I shared a message with my young people about N.I.N.O. Now, for those of you who aren’t up on the latest “Techy” terms it means, “No Input, No Output.” Basically it means that if the right data input isn’t typed-in, then you’re not going to get the right result. It’s like when you want to change your profile on MySpace… if you type in the wrong HTML what’s gonna happen? Exactly! A messed-up profile! Many of us get messed up results in life, not just because “the devil is after me!”, but because we haven’t taken the time to put the proper spiritual nutrients into our spirit-man. In fact Mr. Job knew all about this when he said,

“I have not departed from the commandment of His lips; I have treasured the words of His mouth more than my necessary food.” Job 23:12 [NKJV]

In other words, God’s Word is what sustains us and gives us supernatural strength.

Now there’s another acronym that is along these same lines, and it goes like this… G.I.G.O. Heard of this one? “Garbage In, Garbage Out.” Just try eating a solid diet of Hershy’s candy bars for breakfast, lunch, and dinner… just for a week! [I know, I know… that’s gross.] But so many of us are pumping garbage into our mind and hearts non-stop 24/7, and we wonder why we get so irritable and feel like “Devil’s food” everyday?

Here’s a couple quick tips to get the right “stuff” into your system:

1. Go Get You a Strong Devotional-Life!
Living from crisis-to-crisis has to stop. Get back to spending quality time with the Lord each and everyday. There’s no short-cut to spiritual growth.

2. Invest in Some Good Q.T.A.’s!
Q.T.A.’s are, “Quiet-Time Accessories”. Get yourself a good Bible, maybe even buy a new Bible, start fresh! Buy some fluorescent pens and begin a new journey with God! Next, get yourself a Daily Bible Reading Plan. This will give your Quiet-Time some focus. You’ll know where you’re going to read each day and won’t be intimidated by the thickness of God’s Word. Then I would say, invest in a Spiritual Journal. It doesn’t have to be fancy, a spiral notebook works fine. This where you write down what the Holy Spirit is speaking to you. It’s also a great outlet for frustration. “Are you serious?” Just read the Psalms! That was King David’s Spiritual Journal! And then lastly make sure you invest some quality, un-hurried time in prayer to God. This is going to energize you more than a double-shot at Starbucks!

Just remember those acronyms: N.I.N.O., G.I.G.O., and Q.T.A.’s, and develop your spiritual-life!

“Church Molesters”

So horrible and sick! This is happening in Churches around the world, and the Lord of the Church is about ready to lock somebody up!

Daily Bible Reading: 1 Cor. 15-16

SCRIPTURE

“For I am the least [worthy] of the apostles, who am not fit or deserving to be called an apostle, because I once wronged and pursued and molested the church of God [oppressing it with cruelty and violence]. 1 Cor. 15:9 AMP

OBSERVATION
In recent years there has been a dramatic increase of molestation. I’m not taking about priests, pastors or Sunday school workers. I am talking about those who are molesting the Church. The apostle Paul was once guilty of such a heinous crime. Back in the day he would do such cruel things to these kind saints. I wonder how many of us have forgotten just how bad we have been before we came to Christ. Even Paul here, after being used so mightily by God, stands his ground by saying, “I am the least [worthy] of the apostles, who am not fit or deserving.” Why is it that after awhile of being a part of the Church that we somehow think we deserve so many things? We used to be so grateful just to be saved. And yet after being saved for a few years and after attending Church Sunday after Sunday we begin to get a little rough around the edges, and then we spite the Church and, in a sense, “molest” it by our critical attitudes. We become “Church Molesters” by speaking against the way “they do” Church. We speak against our precious leaders that God has set in place, and thus we spear at the very heart of Christ and slap His innocent children in the back room of our griping sessions. If we’re not careful the Lord of the Church will incarcerate the “Church Molesters” and throw away the key.

APPLICATION
I am just amazed at the holy humility I see here in the apostle Paul. He is so real and transparent. He knows he doesn’t deserve the blessing of being apart of the ministry – the work of God. He seems to be living in such a way that he knows where he is going because he understands where he has comes from. This morning I want to remember all that God has done in my life and how grateful I am to be where I am. God doesn’t owe me anything. I’m fortunate to be alive, not to mention be in the ministry. I want to gain a new appreciating for the Church – God’s House and make sure I’m doing all I can to protect and stand up for her.

PRAYER
“Lord, I know I’m unworthy to be called by your holy Name. Please forgive me for taking your Holy Spirit for granted and for not maintaining the humility that I see the apostle Paul. No matter what others do or say empower me today to stand firm until the very end. Let me be a blessing, and not just seek a blessing. Fill me afresh today. Give me a new perspective. Anoint me with fresh Oil I ask. In Jesus’ Name I pray, Amen.”
