5 Temper-Tantrum Busters

Have you ever seen those children in Walmart that you just wish would… SHUT UP!!? Just the other day I saw a red-faced, screaming little kid sitting in a shopping cart. It seemed to get everyone’s attention. Surprise, surprise. It’s like nails on a chalkboard. Here’s the thing though. I wonder if our attitudes, can be like to God at times. (Things that make you go, “hmmm”.) But it need not be.

“And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.” Gen. 1:26 [kjv]

I’m seeing in a fresh new way the absolute dignity of mankind that God has bestowed upon us, humanoids. Not only are we created in His image, but also after His likeness. Some say, “No one knows what God looks like, because God is Spirit” (John 4).” But right here it says, “Let us make man… after our likeness.” We basically look like God! Does that sound blasphemous? I don’t think so. But herein lies the deeper meaning. If people would just realize the privilege of being alive, and knowing that God has clothed us with majesty, we wouldn’t get so depressed and down on ourselves so quickly.

“God spoke to Cain: “Why this tantrum? Why the sulking? If you do well, won’t you be accepted? And if you don’t do well, sin is lying in wait for you, ready to pounce; it’s out to get you, you’ve got to master it.” Genesis 4:6-7 [msg]

Can’t you just see the grace and mercy of God being extended – even in the midst of our immature, crybaby, temper-tantrum outbursts, that tend to leak-out every once in a while?

Real quick, here’s 5 TEMPER-TANTRUM BUSTERS:

1. Ask yourself, “Why the Tantrum?” (Don’t just accept it.)

2. Determine why you’re depressed. “Why the Sulking?” (You have to break the cycle.)

3. Do Well. (Don’t just “think” about doing better in the future – Do something now.)

4. Beware of Sin. (It’s crouching, it’s lion-like, it’s ready to devour. Better to keep your eyes open.)

5. Master Sin. (Don’t just be an “apprentice”. Be a “Master Disciple”; and for sure Master your sins, lest they master you!)

You can change! And may you, personally, experience greater victory today in your walk with the Lord Jesus!

Another One Bites The Dust

Actually… according to scientists, the Dust Mites may, in fact, be the ones who are biting back!

I’m taking our youth here in Maui, HI through a series we’re calling, “Waking-Up Sleepy Christianity”.

Dust mites love dead skin and some of the best places they feast on are pillows, bed covers, and blankets. This is not meant to freak you out, (but it may have). It’s more to share the spiritual analogy between “dust” and “sleepy Christianity”.

Isaiah 52 says, “Awake, awake! Shake yourself from the dust, arise!”

“DUST”= SLEEPY CHRISTIANITY
Why? Because you don’t know it’s there until you get up close. Sometimes we distance ourselves from people and the church so that they won’t know what’s really going on in our life. Because if you get up-close to me you’ll see that there’s a lot of… Dust. And, dust only comes from one thing – Neglect.

– Dusty Bible
– Dusty Prayer Closet
– Dusty, nasty Attitudes

THE RESPONSIBILITY I HAVE TO WAKE-UP

The Scripture says I have to “shake” myself. The preacher can nudge you, but you’re the only one who can “shake” you. Your friends can try to shake you, They’ll say things like: “You really shouldn’t be doing that. What are you doing?!”, but you’ll just shake it off. You’ve got to shake yourself! It your responsibility. No one can do it, but you.

THIS IS MY WAKE-UP CALL

It’s not that you’re a “bad” person, or a “sinner”, it’s just that me and you, we have neglected our “beautiful garments” (Isaiah 52:1). We have to “put them on”. These are the…

– Beautiful Garments of Salvation
– Beautiful Garments of Forgiveness
– Beautiful Garments of Praise

It’s time to toss that old pillow of sleepy Christianity, and begin a fresh new day with the One who gave His all for you. Don’t be another one who bites the dust, (or is bitten by the “Dust”). What do you say?

Freedom from OCD

Light and Truth must function together. One without the other, causes great frustration.

Oh, send out Your light and Your truth! Let them lead me; Let them bring me to Your holy hill And to Your tabernacle. [Ps. 42:3]

Trichotillomania (Hair-pulling disorder)

I recently watched an episode of A&E’s, Obsessed. One gal, who seemed like she had everything going for her: Healthy, pretty, employed, has her own apartment; and yet she has a very dark secret that no one knows about. She pulls her own hair out from 3-to-4 hours a nite, and as a result he has over 40 sets of wigs that she wears. There’s an inner frustration that’s festering, and causing self-mutilation. (Here’s where Light and Truth are not functioning together.) Why? Because, in this show, when asked why she does it, she said, “I just want to be beautiful, and have normal hair.” Doesn’t sound logical, does it?

Because if she wants to be beautiful, and have normal hair, why doesn’t she just stop pulling out her hair, you ask? Because Truth is missing. See, the enemy of all life is, Satan; and he speaks lies to people in order to destroy their life, and to ultimately cause them to self-destruct. Jesus said, “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life”. The devil was speaking to her… “You’re ugly, you’ll never be pretty enough, why not pull out some of your hair, and I’ll make you feel better inside.” But if Jesus where allowed to come in and speak to her, it might sound something like this…

“My daughter, you are so beautiful, I understand the pain you feel inside, that most of the time you feel inferior, and want to be different. But I want you to know that you are already beautiful in My eyes, and that you too must also see yourself the way I see you, and not allow yourself to be rules by the external, but rather by the internal. Come, my beloved, tell me what’s on your mind right now, and I will remove the pain and frustration, and cause you to overcome this in your life.”

See, as the Light and the Truth are allowed into the human spirit, they lead us to the place where God’s presence dwells. Because it’s only in this place that you and I will find comfort, freedom, and a release from the strongholds that seek to strangle our lives.

If you’re experiencing different obsessions, like this gal, you can be free. If you’re experiencing any other stronghold such as these, you can be free: OCD, Cutting, Bulimia, Anorexia, Drug use, Alcoholism, Nail-biting, Anger, Depression, Fears, Phobias, Overeating, Anxiety, Stress, Panic Attacks. If you have any of these things in your life, or something similar, I want you to pray this prayer out loud:

“Jesus, I believe that You are the Truth. So, I’m asking You right now, to send out Your Light and Your Truth. Let them function as one in my heart and mind. Bring me close to Your heart, I need to be released from my stronghold __________________________ (say it out loud) by Your power. Set me free right now, in Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

If you’ve prayed that prayer, you have just taken the first step in your freedom. But remember how Light and Truth function together? Now, you need to begin re-programming your mind through the reading of God’s Word, The Bible, so that you can understand who you are in God’s eyes, and so that you can begin to really know who God is. Post a comment if you’d like, and I will do my best to help in any way I can. May you experience total transformation, and live the best life you can!

Get Off The Criminal Road!

This week I was at the Illinois African-American Economic and Social Empowerment Summit in Springfield, IL with my Pastor. Now, as a ”white guy”, sure I felt a little out of place, but there was something that the representative of the Department of Corrections said about “Re-offenders” that really got me thinking. He said… “You gotta get ‘em off the criminal road!” It got me thinking about the parallels of the sinner who gives his heart to Christ, but that’s merely the beginning.

What is “The Criminal Road”? And how do you know you’re on that road? Sure, you repented of your sins, or asked God to forgive you of some sin you committed, but are you about to “re-offend”?

Matt 7:13 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat.”

Here’s some of the warning signs that you may in fact be on The Criminal Road:

1. YOU HAVE A POLLUTED SOCIAL NETWORK.
I see this all the time with young people. Their close friends are using profanity on their MySpace page, they’re still trying to “be cool” at school and fit in at Church, It just doesn’t work. “Who you hang with is who you’ll HANG with!” The noose is ready, the executioner is wearing his black hood! Why? Because you’re friends are bent on sin. They eat it up like a hungry pig in a garbage dump. Your social network has got to change. “Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners.” [1Cor. 15:33]

2. YOU HAVE STINKIN’ THINKIN’.
Sure Jesus is in your heart, but the Devil is still controlling your thoughts. If you’re thinking about dope, Hennessy, or getting down at the Club, where do you think you are? You’re not on the Highway of Holiness, you’re on the Criminal Road, and you’re about to re-offend and get locked-up! Isaiah 35:8 says, “And a highway shall be there, and a way, and it shall be called The way of holiness; the unclean shall not pass over it; but it shall be for those: the wayfaring men, though fools, shall not err therein”.

3. YOU’VE GOT BOOGERS IN YOUR NOSE
Have you ever talked to someone and noticed they had a booger in their nose? They didn’t check themselves in the mirror beforehand. “And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother’s eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?” [Matt. 7:3] Many times the person on The Criminal Road has got his nose in everybody’s business but his own. He’s lost his focus on getting his own live on track, and somehow validates himself by correcting others.

4. YOU HAVE DIRTY HABBITS
Habits are something that you do day-in and day-out. A habit can make you or break you depending on what kind of habits you have. Nancy Reagan’s “Just Say No!” campaign didn’t work, because there was nothing to say “Yes” to! If you take away the Alcohol you’ve got to replace it by drinking the New Wine. If you take away the Marijuana or Crack pipe you’ve got to replace it with a passion for prayer and praise. You’ve got to exchange those dirty habits.

5. YOU’VE GOT BAD BREATH
I’m almost aghast at how many “Christians” these days use profanity or take the Lord’s Name in vain. “A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.” Luke 6:45. Cuss on, my friend – you’re on the Criminal Road and the Holy Spirit is about incarcerate you if you don’t take a detour – quick!

6. YOU’VE GOT A SMELLY SCHEDULE
The person who’s on the Criminal Road is consistently lazy with fulfilling their priorities. They say things like, “Yeah, I’ve been busy lately”, “I just haven’t had time”, or “I know I should have but…” My Pastor once said, “Excuses are like buttholes – everyone’s got one.” I tell my young people, in regards to homework, etc. “Do the worst first.” We must set our priorities, and then everything else is secondary. The Criminal Road is filled with a smelly schedule. Get it cleaned-up and the fragrance of Christ [2 Cor. 2:14] will go before you!

Feeling like a “spiritual-slacker”?

If you feel like you have been a “spiritual-slacker” lately then I’ve got just the thing that will revitalize your relationship with God!!

Starting this Friday we’re going on a 21-Day “DANIEL FAST”

JOIN THE 21-DAY FAST!!

A “Daniel Fast” is when you abstain from “Pleasant Food” [Daniel 10:3], and eat only fruit, vegetables, nuts, etc. [Just click on the link above and you’ll see a Bulletin at the bottom of the page with alot more info]. But someone once said…

“Drastic times require drastic measures.”

You don’t have to go the full 21 days. You can do a meal here and there, and perhaps the 2 week you can go a couple days. The point is to do something. “…deny yourself, take up your cross, and follow Jesus!”

You and I are living in a time where this world is literally collapsing around us, and if your heart isn’t strengthened, and if you aren’t as close to God as you think you are…. you won’t be able to make it. You say, “how absurd!?” Really? Jesus Christ, Himself – fully God, fully man went on a 40-Day Fast because He knew the severity of living in this sin-soaked world. If you & I don’t stand strong for Christ in the day-and-age that we’re living in we’re going to be swept off our feet with the ever-increasing tide of sin.

The time to stop it is now! It’s time for a change! Join our 21-Day Fast today!

When we go “a whoring”

Never say, “Never”, is the adage. “Not me, Jesus, I’ll never forsake you!!” Watch out!

Judges 2:17 KJV “And yet they would not hearken unto their judges, but they went a whoring after other gods, and bowed themselves unto them: they turned quickly out of the way which their fathers walked in, obeying the commandments of the LORD; but they did not so.”

Judges 2:17 MSG “But they wouldn’t listen to their judges; they prostituted themselves to other gods–worshiped them! They lost no time leaving the road walked by their parents, the road of obedience to GOD’s commands. They refused to have anything to do with it”.

It’s this phrase, “they went a whoring after other gods” in the King James Version that really stands out to me. It has such an in-your-face connotation to it. God wanted to bless, protect, and meet every need of the children of Israel, but as they forsook the Lord to go after these other gods they actually found themselves in an unexpected predicament. Isn’t that the way sin always is? Because they wouldn’t listen to the deliverers God had raised-up…

1. They ended-up bowing down to who they prostituted themselves to.
• 2Peter 2:19 They promise them freedom while they themselves are slaves of destructive habits—for we are slaves of anything that has conquered us. GNB
• I’m sure the first few times a person uses Crack Cocaine thinks it’s pretty fun, but then he finds himself “bowing down” to it. It has become his new master.

2. They took an unmarked off-ramp to leave the highway their forefathers walked-in.
• How sad when someone has once walked on the road of obeying God’s commandments and then leaves for something, (or someone) else. God’s Word is our “Road map” as we live in this world.

3. Their attitude became a reinforced snobbery of rebellion against God.
• It’s a sad day when a person has gone so far that they thumb their nose at the One who did so much for them. This type of warped thinking doesn’t just automatically happen. It starts with a glance, with a subtle temptation, with a person who’s already done it, and there’s an unexplained attraction. But in the process Satan is sliding on the hand-cuffs, and there will be no escape unless the victim cried out to the Lord from the heart. [Judges 2:18].

When we leave our 1st Love [Rev. 2:4] to go a whoring after other gods it has ghastly results. God’s desire is for us to stay in perpetual communion with Him and to walk according to His Word.

BEGIN to Possess!

Are you possessing the land that the Lord has said is yours? Perhaps you just came out of the wilderness of the world. The Lord says, “It’s time! BEGIN TO POSSESS!”

Daily Bible Reading: Deu. 1-7

SCRIPTURE

And the LORD said unto me, Behold, I have begun to give Sihon and his land before thee: BEGIN TO POSSESS, that thou mayest inherit his land. Deu 2:31 KJV

OBSERVATION
The Children of Israel had been through so much. Think about it – bondage, slavery, sickness, disease, hunger, thirst, death, humiliation and confusion – just to name a few. But now the Lord is saying, “It’s time! Begin to possess!” It is interesting that the name “Sihon”, is literally translated, “tempestuous” or “stormy trials”. The first area the Lord wants us to overcome and possess is difficult and stormy times. Sometimes we have to endure “stormy people” and “stormy attitudes”. Actually He commands us to possess them! In other words we must not allow them to overwhelm us, but we must endure, and not only that, but He wants us to come out of it smelling like a rose and demonstrating the sweet character qualities of Jesus Christ and the fruit of the Spirit.

APPLICATION
Many times we get discouraged, thinking, “well, I’m just not there yet.” But all God is saying is, “BEGIN TO POSSESS.” Before you get into the storm know ahead of time that you are going to possess it. You are going to trust in the Lord, and that you are not going to battle with the carnal weapons of complaining, arguing, backsliding, or giving “stormy people” the silent treatment. Possess it with Jesus! Pass the test! Allow the Holy Spirit to minister to you in those stormy times.

PRAYER
“Father I come to You this morning desiring to BEGIN TO POSSESS! I understand that it all starts in my decision to possess the tempest of the storm, and to maintain the fruit of the Spirit without falling prey to Satan’s slimy ways of manipulating You or others around me. I lean upon on this day for the Victory! In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”
