At times it can seem like chaos is reigning.

– Parents are getting out of control
– Local drug dealers are busy polluting Society
– Your best friend just talked behind your back
– Brothers & sisters are driving you crazy
– “There’s no food in the fridge!”
– …and “Why doesn’t anybody CARE!!!???”

Always remember that when it’s super crazy all around you – it doesn’t have to GET IN you. The storm might be raging all around you, but it doesn’t need to get all up ON you! Jesus is your Strong Tower – Run to Him and you’ll be safe. It’s the smartest move you’ll ever make.

How To Hear The Voice of God

Here’s 3 practical steps in hearing the Voice of God that have helped me greatly, and may pave the way for you to begin to hear God’s voice.

With so many things going on today someone might say, “Is it even possible to hear the voice of God?” God is speaking today. The real question is, “Are you listening?” Today we are literally bombarded with radio, TV, computers, video games, screaming kids, and traffic ⎯⎯ just to name a few. Sometimes we feel like if we could just get away we would be able to get our head cleared and really become more spiritual. And you know what? You’re right. But most of us can’t take a 3 month vacation and be a monk on a mountain somewhere. But there is a way for us live-out our faith on a daily basis so that our relationship with God will benefit us.

1. Carve-Out Time in Your Schedule to Wait on God.
Think of what you find yourself saying so often, “I just don’t have time.” That’s why you need to set a priority on making time to spend with God. Go to bed an hour earlier, and set your alarm an hour earlier. Start there.

2. Go to a Quiet Place.
This is so important. As long as kids are screaming and phones are ringing you wont be able to hear the voice of God. Think of it, you’re wanting to hear the voice of the Eternal God! Don’t take it lightly. Position yourself.
Think of the times God spoke in the Bible. Moses was all by himself on a mountain. So, plan your time and then get to a place where you won’t be distracted.

3. Quite Your Heart to Listen
Make sure there is no unconfessed sin in your life. Ask God to speak to you. Whatever you hear, make sure that it doesn’t contradict God’s Word, for God will never contradict Himself. Write down what you are sensing Him saying to you. If you’re not sure about what you’re heard, find a mature believer or Pastor to check it. Because the Bible says that there are many voices that speak. This will give you confidence, and will add to your faith, that you are in fact hearing the voice of God.

Applying these 3 easy steps will get you on the road to hearing the voice of God. If you have any questions or comments, feel free to let me know.

“God, I Love My Goads!”

Some people are great team players, while others are great at bucking against any, and everything. “What in the world are goads?” Goads are used to keep oxen from backing up. They have little spikes on them, and once an ox bumps into them he usually never does it again, because they give a pretty good wake-up call. Frank Damazio, in his book, “Successful Leadership” said, in regards to the “foot-dragger” types, “If you kick, be sure you kick towards the goal.” When I read it I though to myself… “…and don’t kick against the goads!” Saul of Taursus, who of course became the great Apostle Paul, was confronted by the Risen Christ on the Road to Damascus. As he heard a voice saying, “Saul, Saul… it’s hard for thee to kick against the pricks, (goads)”[Acts 9:5] If you don’t like what you’re doing, just do everybody a great big favor, and get out! But if you realize that there is some sort of reason why you are at that job, church, relationship, then why not accept the goads? In fact, you ought to be thankful for the goads in your lives, especially God’s goads!

“Are you serious?” Of course! Think of it this way. As long as we buck against the Word and think it’s too hard, or somehow think “God isn’t fair”, then you’re going to find yourself fighting against the very blessing that God is trying to bring into your life. That situation that you’re in – they’re your “goads”. God has placed them in your life so that you can grow, and move forward. As long as you and I kick against the goads we’re going to find ourselves getting angry and resentful. This is going backwards! God is calling you to go forward, and only forward! So, why not say, “God, I love my goads!!” It will make a difference in your life today.
