I know it’s not polite to say, “SHUT-UP!”, but when someone learns to do this all-important life skill there is incredible results.
Daily Bible reading: Proverbs 17
He that hath knowledge spareth his words: and a man of understanding is of an excellent spirit. Even a fool, when he holdeth his peace, is counted wise: and he that shutteth his lips is esteemed a man of understanding.
Have you ever been around someone who just talks and talks, and they never seem to shut their mouth? They’re literal “motor-mouths”! They haven’t learned to… SHUT-UP! Here in this Scripture it seems to indicate that there is extreme wisdom in not talking all the time. And it’s not just that, but it is the person who possesses wisdom understands that he or she doesn’t need to talk so much. When everyone one else wants everybody to listen to them – they are at peace with themselves. They’re thinkers. They are those who meditate. Sometimes you’re not even sure what’s going on in their mind, but you can see the wheels turning. Because they have an excellent spirit they are secure in who they are. They’re not trying to prove anything to anyone.
I desire to be a man of wisdom and possess an excellent spirit and that when I do speak – they are words of life and not words of death.
“Lord, I desire to possess an excellent spirit. Fill me with Your Spirit of Wisdom today that I might walk in Your ways and not stray from Your paths. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”
