Drinking-in the Rain of Heaven

Are you a drinker? Huh? What are you drinking? If it’s not the Rain of Heaven, it may be time to give it a try…

Hey, do you remember the Aladdin movie? Who could forget it? The song that goes…

A whole new world
A new fantastic point of view
No one to tell us no
Or where to go
Or say we’re only dreaming

A whole new world
A dazzling place I never knew
But when I’m way up here
It’s crystal clear
That now I’m in a whole new world with you
Now I’m in a whole new world with you…

This is what the Lord was trying to communicate to the Children of Israel. The Lord was saying, “Oh, you worked so hard in Egypt! I know it was a sweaty life, but where I’m taking you is a place that is so incredible! It’s going to be a whole new world! Don’t let anyone tell you it’s not real. When you finally see it you’ll look back and remember what I told you, for I will be there with you!”

Where the Lord is taking us in the Spirit is not a place of “sweat-ness”, but really a place of “sweet-ness”. Our number one job won’t be to WORK-WORK-WORK, but it will be DRINK-DRINK-DRINK! Notice what God says: “It is a land of hills and valleys, and drinketh water of the rain of heaven”. [Deuteronomy 11:11 KJV]. We must be those who drink-in the rain of Heaven! Why? Truly it is a preview of what we will be doing in Heaven! In Heaven we will be drinking-in the Goodness of God, the Mercy of God! Oh, it’s going to be a whole new world!! He will even teach us His ways [Isaiah 2:3], and we’ll be drinking that in! Why is this important? Remember Jesus talked about the rich man and Lazarus? The rich man went to hell when he died and was begging for just a sip of water, but it was impossible. Could it be that this lesson of Drinking-In the Rain of Heaven is so important now, because it demonstrates to God that we are truly desiring to drink-in His Love and Presence when we die and spend all eternity with Him.

Are you drinking?
What are you drinking?

If it’s not the Rain of Heaven, it’s time to receive today!

“Lord, open the windows of Heaven and pour out the Blessing of refreshing for me! Let Your mercy come down! Let Your Spirit be poured out on me today! Let the parched areas of my life receive a down-pour! In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

So, That’s Why it Happened

Have you ever wondered why certain things happen? Perhaps some we may never know, but in this morning’s devotional God gives us one reason in particular…

Daily Bible Reading: Deu. 8-10

And he humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with manna, which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know; that he might make thee know that man doth not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the LORD doth man live. Deu 8:3 KJV

Many times we go through sticky circumstances, and we wonder why. The thing we don’t understand is that God is teaching us something. Why did the children of Israel cry out for food? The Bible says so “THEY MIGHT KNOW THAT MAN DOES NOT LIVE BY BREAD ALONE, BUT BY EVERY WORD OF GOD!” Did they understand? Did they get the message? No. They simply reacted in the flesh and got extremely bitter and angry with Moses and with the Lord. Did God bring them out into the wilderness to starve them and ultimately kill them? A thousand times, NO! God said, in Deu 8:16, “Who fed thee in the wilderness with manna, which thy fathers knew not, that he might humble thee, and that he might prove thee, to do thee good at thy latter end.” God wanted them to pass the test so that He could reward them.

Those of us that are parents want to give good stuff to our kids, right? – but NEVER after a temper tantrum. Wouldn’t that be absurd? When they do something good, or when they get an “A” – that’s when we feel like blessing them. When they demonstrate a mature attitude in the mist of others kids who are little monsters we want to show them off to everybody and say, “Ah! You won’t believe my son! He is the most amazing kid ever!” This is what God wants to do for us! I am finding that, if I am open, the Holy Spirit will show me how to persevere in unpleasant circumstances. I am beginning to realize that He didn’t bring me this far to let me go.

“Lord, it’s my prayer that you would give me a heart that discerns the lessons of the Lord. Help your servant to not be ignorant. Allow me to receive a fresh spirit of wisdom and understanding in the things of God. May Your Word have the preeminence in my life each and every day. In Jesus’ Name I pray,, Amen.”

BEGIN to Possess!

Are you possessing the land that the Lord has said is yours? Perhaps you just came out of the wilderness of the world. The Lord says, “It’s time! BEGIN TO POSSESS!”

Daily Bible Reading: Deu. 1-7

And the LORD said unto me, Behold, I have begun to give Sihon and his land before thee: BEGIN TO POSSESS, that thou mayest inherit his land. Deu 2:31 KJV

The Children of Israel had been through so much. Think about it – bondage, slavery, sickness, disease, hunger, thirst, death, humiliation and confusion – just to name a few. But now the Lord is saying, “It’s time! Begin to possess!” It is interesting that the name “Sihon”, is literally translated, “tempestuous” or “stormy trials”. The first area the Lord wants us to overcome and possess is difficult and stormy times. Sometimes we have to endure “stormy people” and “stormy attitudes”. Actually He commands us to possess them! In other words we must not allow them to overwhelm us, but we must endure, and not only that, but He wants us to come out of it smelling like a rose and demonstrating the sweet character qualities of Jesus Christ and the fruit of the Spirit.

Many times we get discouraged, thinking, “well, I’m just not there yet.” But all God is saying is, “BEGIN TO POSSESS.” Before you get into the storm know ahead of time that you are going to possess it. You are going to trust in the Lord, and that you are not going to battle with the carnal weapons of complaining, arguing, backsliding, or giving “stormy people” the silent treatment. Possess it with Jesus! Pass the test! Allow the Holy Spirit to minister to you in those stormy times.

“Father I come to You this morning desiring to BEGIN TO POSSESS! I understand that it all starts in my decision to possess the tempest of the storm, and to maintain the fruit of the Spirit without falling prey to Satan’s slimy ways of manipulating You or others around me. I lean upon on this day for the Victory! In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Touched by the Holy Spirit

Have you been Baptized in the Holy Spirit? Are you on-fire for God? Are you ashamed of Speaking in Tongues? Then perhaps you need to be touched by the Holy Spirit.

Daily Bible Reading: Gal. 1-6, Ps. 36-40

But as then he that was born after the flesh persecuted him that was born after the Spirit, even so it is now. Gal. 4:29 KJV

The Apostle Paul had come against so many naysayers in his day. After the crucifixion of the Master many were just content to be circumcised and pretend to keep the Law. But then along came the Apostle Paul who had been radically touched on the Road of Damascus. He fell to the ground, heard the voice of God, and was physically blind for 3 days. So powerful was this experience of his that he literally shook the world with the fire of God and preached the Word of God is such a way that people thought he was nuts! With the move of the Spirit in his life came also those who persecuted Paul. Today there are many who are not only content to live without the fire of the Holy Spirit, but they want to persecute those who have been touched by the Holy Spirit.

I love the boldness of the Apostles of the early Church. They were so radical. They preached with unashamed passion! They brought new believers into the fullness of the Holy Spirit and led them into receiving the gift of Speaking in Tongues. It was liquid Fire coming down! How could anyone be the same afterwards? There is something stirring in me to walk in the fullness of the Spirit, to crave a fresh anointing that draws me deeper in prayer, deeper for souls, deeper into the Word of God – DEEPER!! There must not be a fear of man, nor can we be ashamed of God’s Spirit when He manifests the way He chooses. In a day and age when so many are excited about videos, dramas, and powerpoint presentations – we need a mighty outpouring of the Holy Spirit so much more.

“Holy Spirit, I am hungry for You today. I need Your wisdom. I need Your glory to overwhelm me and take me away in the Spirit. Away with stale bread, and left-over sermons – give me the New Wine of Your Spirit, and baptize me afresh with the River of Life so that I’ll never be the same again. In Jesus’ Name I pray, Amen.”

Flirting with the World

Are you a “Christian”, and yet you find yourself getting too close to the edge? You might be in danger. It’s time to decide which side you’re going to stand on.

Daily Bible Reading: Num. 22-36

God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good? Num. 23:19 KJV

In these chapters we see God sending Balaam to bless the children of Israel, but there was another person named, Balak, who was the King of Moab – enemies of God’s people, who wanted Balaam to curse God’s people. Though Balaam seemed to be someone who wasn’t really stable in his relationship with God, still there was a great spiritual gift in his life. It proves that God can grace a person with spiritual gifts, talents, and abilities, but it’s up to that individual to exercise their own free will to use them for God’s glory. So, Balaam asked the Lord, and basically the Lord said, “No, only bless!” Balak got pretty upset about it, but Balaam said, “Hey, if the Lord said He’s going to bless these people, how can it turn out any other way?!”

Biblical illiteracy is at an all-time high. God has declared those in Christ, “You’re Blessed IN CHRIST!”, but still Christians walk around wondering if God is against them. Listen, if God is for you, then you don’t ever have to wonder about it. Just walk in the blessing, don’t compromise, and don’t hold hands with God’s enemies to go on a stroll down a prim rose path with them. Just stick with God’s Word!

“Lord, I thank you today that Your Word is forever settled in Heaven! Let me never get to the point where I prostitute the gifts You have given me to enable the enemy to do damage against God’s people, like Balaam. Let me be preserved and found faithful until You come. Give me a greater love for Thine Holy Word, in Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Nah, I didn’t Trip

Have you ever tripped and then played it off like you meant to do it? It’s embarrassing…

Daily Bible reading: Num. 18-21

“And Moses and Aaron went from the presence of the assembly unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, and they fell upon their faces: and the glory of the LORD appeared unto them.” Num. 20:6

Have you ever tripped and then played it off like you meant to do it? It’s embarrassing. Your friends laugh their heads off as they point at you while covering their mouths in joyful glee. In the Book of Numbers, it already appears four times, where it says of both Moses and Aaron that they, “fell on their faces.” But it wasn’t an embarrassing situation. They actually meant to fall on their faces. Why? The people around them were getting angry at them as leaders and were angry with the Lord. If it were me I would have put my meanest, most ugliest face on and would have let ‘em have it! Oh, they would have gotten a good piece of my mind! But not Moses and Aaron – they handled the situation in the right way – they prayed. How often do we react to people’s carnality by getting in the ring with them and going a few rounds until someone gets hurt. Afterwards we feel miserable. We’re not in the Spirit and we ended up being a very poor example of Christ. Our initial reaction to the situation proves that we haven’t grown in the Lord.

The Lord speaks of certain people as “stiff necked”. But here in Numbers we see Moses and Aaron as those who bowed the head. They could have yelled at somebody, but they chose to humble themselves before God and allow God to intervene. In certain situations when the flesh wants to get ugly it’s important to not REACT in the flesh, but to RESPOND to the promptings of the Lord by humbling ourselves and bowing down our egos, and to give it to the Lord in prayer. Instead of falling on our face in defeat let’s intentionally “fall on our faces” like Moses and Aaron here that we might see a great personal victory, as well as the preservation of relationships that God has placed within our lives.

“Jesus, this is where the rubber meets the road. Personalities, egos, carnality… it all stinks before You, but You have a right way to handle every situation. Enable You servant today to live in such a way that demonstrates the grace and forgiveness that You have even showed unto me. Holy Spirit I ask you to fill me afresh this morning that I might walk in the Spirit today. In Jesus’ precious Name, Amen.”

Whining & Dining!

Have you ever heard of the saying, “be careful what you wish for.”? Well… sometime you find yourself eating EXACTLY what you prepared!Daily Bible reading: Num. 11-17

“And when the people complained, it displeased the LORD: and the LORD heard it…” Num. 11:1
“Who shall give us flesh to eat? for it was well with us in Egypt: therefore the LORD will give you flesh, and ye shall eat”. Num. 11:18

This morning I’m hearing the Holy Spirit saying, “When you whine – you’re gonna dine.” What? The children of Israel really mastered the art of whining, grumbling and complaining. What was the problem? Yes, they were set free from their bondage in Egypt, but now that they were free they had entered into a relationship of faith with the Lord. This relationship requires trusting the Lord. But they felt like the Lord wasn’t watching over them, or that He somehow didn’t care. This is always a dangerous assumption. So, the Lord had to deal with them in their childish ways, [ever been there?]. So, with their whining He gave them something to eat, and what a feast it was! There was so much food that it started coming out of their noses! What a sight it must have been! But, here’s the thing – their experience was the direct result of their whining. In other words they dined on what they whined on. They ate what they didn’t appreciate.

Do you like to eat saltine crackers and canned sardines? How about moldy bread with some butter that has been sitting out for a few months, with little stuff growing on it? No way! We like good food! Give me a nice salmon, or a juicy steak, fresh baked potato with sour cream… Mmm! Well, if we understand this in the natural, then it’s not too hard to understand in the spiritual. If you and I want to eat good we go to a nice restaurant. But if we don’t care how we eat… just do nothing. Don’t go shopping because you don’t like people. Don’t work because your Boss is mean. Just whine about everything and everybody and see how well you eat. I guarantee you’ll be whining and dining, alright. It’s time to realize just how good the Lord is. Amen! “Taste and see that the Lord is good!”

“Lord, as I come to you this morning I understand that whining is something that can easily get in my heart like a plague. Help me to be one who praises You every single day. Forgive me for any and all complaints. I turn my heart towards You and Your holy Temple – to exalt in You, to glorify You! Oh! You are glorious in my life! There is no one like You! Let me eat from Your Hand today, for I trust You for it, in Jesus’ Name, Amen.”
